Open-Top Commuter Race Cars

Soyeon Kim's 2023 Volkswagen Concept Imagines a Performance-focused VW

Soyeon Kim is a South Korean designer with a vision for a decidedly different Volkswagen of the future. Her Volkswagen sports car concept for 2023 looks more like an F1 car than anything you'd ever see on sale at a dealership. The open-top two-seater was clearly inspired by racing and almost certainly wouldn't be legal for road use if built. Outside of the grille and the badging there's nothing that says this is a VW.

Soyeon Kim's design is certainly ambitious but it's not entirely off-base. Recently a handful of automakers have been making F1-inspired supercars, albeit for extremely high prices and in very limited numbers. Soyeon Kim's design could easily serve as the basis for VW's foray into this realm. That being said 2023 seems like an ambitious timeline for this project.
