Germany's Graft architecture studio has helped to establish Ethiopia's first 'SolarKiosk' in the Lake Langano region. The compact structure runs on photovoltaic panels and can be easily assembled on-site, or even transported on the backs of donkeys.
The Graft team has remained focused on sustainable energy. While most stands sell snacks or small supplies, the SolarKiosk provides batteries, cell phones and lanterns to local residents. Access to a solar-powered fridge and computer are also provided, making it a one-stop tech hub in area with minimal access to power.
The SolarKiosk will be central to community development as it will employ and train ambitious Ethiopians. The fridge may also be used cooperatively to store medicine or other critical goods as it will likely be the only one of its kind in the vicinity.
