Solar-Powered Water Purifiers

This Solar Still Purifies Water in Remote Areas without Electricity

Concerns about water purity are a constant in many parts of the world where access to potable H2O is a constant issue, so this solar still has been developed as a piece of equipment to help offer a new solution.

Developed by researchers at the University of Buffalo, the water purifier is funded by the National Science Foundation and a collaboration with Fudan University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The purifier consists of a sheet of paper that has been dipped in carbon and formed into a triangular hope before being placed in the vessel to draw the water upward and perform evaporation when exposed to the sun. The solar still will then provide clean drinking water without the need for electricity, which makes it highly viable for rural regions or in times of emergency.
