Panasonic Developed a Solar Car Roof for the Toyota Prius

One of the features that will no doubt help to push electric vehicles forward in terms of range will be incorporating solar cells into the actual design of the car as seen here with this solar car roof.

Developed by Panasonic for the Toyota Prius, the innovation is called the HIT Photovoltaic Module for Automobile and can recharge the vehicle during operation. While other technologies might stop working in very hot temperatures, the technology is intended to help it perform well regardless of this notion.

The solar car roof features solar cells that have been laminated into a resin that has been set atop the curved glass on the roof. The solar roof option is set to come as an option in the UK and in Japan.
