Solace Chain Pendant Combines Mouth-Blown Glass with Brass Links

Solace Chain is a pendant light designed by Australian studio Ross Gardam as an extension of its existing Solace lighting range. The fixture centres on the collection's signature teardrop-shaped glass shade, which is formed from fluid curves derived from the intersection of two circles.

Each shade is mouth-blown and suspended from a slender brass link chain that introduces a new material element to the design. The chain forms a soft loop that complements the rounded geometry of the glass while adding texture and visual contrast.

The pendant is produced by Ross Gardam's manufacturing partners and hand-assembled in the studio's Melbourne workshop. It is available in single, single-looped and double-looped configurations to suit different interior settings. Multiple pendants can also be grouped together to create larger lighting installations for expansive residential, hospitality or commercial spaces.

Trend Themes

  1. Artisanal Glass Lighting — Mouth-blown shades bring collectible craft values into functional fixtures, creating potential for premium lighting lines that blend handmade variation with scalable design systems.
  2. Mixed-material Pendants — The pairing of glass with brass chain details signals a market shift toward tactile contrast, where material layering can differentiate minimalist products in crowded interiors categories.
  3. Modular Lighting Clusters — Configurable single, looped, and grouped pendants reflect growing demand for adaptable statement lighting that can move between residential, hospitality, and commercial environments.

Industry Implications

  1. Decorative Lighting — Studio-produced pendant collections are expanding beyond standard fixtures, with opportunities emerging around customizable formats, artisan finishes, and installation-ready product families.
  2. Interior Design — Sculptural lighting is becoming a spatial focal point rather than a purely functional element, allowing designers to use modular pendants as flexible architectural accents.
  3. Hospitality Design — Restaurants, hotels, and lounges increasingly rely on distinctive lighting installations to shape atmosphere, supporting new demand for handcrafted fixtures that deliver visual identity at scale.
