The Social Economy Alliance, an umbrella group based in the United Kingdom that currently includes more than 300 organizations, held a parliamentary hearing and vote for the first time ever.
"Ultimately, all of these ideas are about social and economic policy being mutually reinforcing," writes Peter Holbrook in the Guardian's Social Enterprise Network. "That's why we are calling for social enterprise units in the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills and HM Treasury. Social economy organisations should be considered in government decisions that affect businesses in the UK."
It will certainly be interesting to see how and if this becomes a test for the world. To what extent will social enterprise have a say in government? Considering the role big business and oil companies play in many Western governments, should they?
