Paula Scher Encourages Distancing with Painted Green Dots

Social distancing markers have become a crucial component of design as cities begin easing lockdown restrictions and opening up the economy after the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak. Many are extremely cautious at this stage and rightfully so.

Recently, graphic designer Paula Scher produced 1,000 painted green dots to remind people to stay safe and responsible. The playful social distancing markers are located in New York's High Lane park which reopened on July 19th. The dots cover benches, seats, and the ground at repeated intervals. Scher hopes that patrons of the park will use her work to "judge the way forward and how they should space themselves."

In addition to the dots, the graphic designer also produced signage with symbols in dots that illustrate key instructions for physical distancing.
