Gamified Shoveling Apps

Dig-Log Turns Snow Shoveling from Labor to a Fun Activity

After a heavy snowfall, snow shoveling is an activity that must be done out of necessity. But HAKUHODO i-studio wants to transform this activity from hard work to something that people can play hard at.

Seeing as Japan experiences extremely heavy snowfall in the winter, Dig-Log was developed so that residents can turn the laborious task into a sport. The Dig-Log app works alongside a companion device that attaches to a shovel, in order to calculate the weight of the snow removed and the calories burned while snow shoveling. To make the experience even more entertaining, groups of people can use the system to spur on competition.

Under its creative lab HACKist, HAKUHODO i-studio will be showcasing Dig-Log and five other IoT prototypes at SXSW 2016.
