Teledyne FLIR Defense, a Wilsonville, Oregon-based defense manufacturer, has introduced a high-tech sniper scope that is designed to make it easier for snipers to remain out of sight while engaging long-range targets thanks to its ability to see bullets to ranges of up to 2,200 meters.
The 'ThermoSight HISS-HD' is designed to make it possible for snipers to go about seeing rounds at long-range by utilizing an imaging sensor that works in conjunction with a cryo-cooling system. This essentially reduces interference from thermal signals and boosts the resolution of imagery. With the kinds of high-tech processors now used by snipers, this also makes it possible to witness the thermal signals of rounds while they are traveling.
"With HISS-HD, we’ve leveraged our world-class thermal imaging technology to provide marksmen with a superior tool to identify and engage targets anywhere, in any environment," stated Rob Tarantino, vice-president of surveillance strategy and development over at Teledyne FLIR.
