The SmartHEAL Sensor Connects Through RFID to Monitor Wounds

The SmartHEAL sensor is an RFID-enabled wound covering that provides a modernized way to keep track of a patient's health to prevent avoidable infections from causing issues.

The wound covering works with an electronic pH sensor printed right into the fabric that can be connected to by simply placing a smartphone within range. Users can then get a reading of the pH level to see if they are developing an infection, which would prompt them to seek medical advice or attention.

The SmartHEAL sensor has been designed by a team of Ph.D. students at the Warsaw University of Technology including Tomasz Raczyński, Dominik Baraniecki and Piotr Walter. The bandage is capable of being easily washed and stretched to allow for easy maintenance.
