Sustainable Mountain Cabins

The Smart Mountain Shelters are Compact Yet Modern Aluminum Modules

Bulgarian design studio Lusio Architects re-imagined the traditional refuge with a focus on sustainability, technology and materiality with the new Smart Mountain Shelters.

Constructed from four aluminium modules, the shelters can be shipped to remote locations with a helicopter to be assembled on site. The structures can be switched into Relax mode while not in use to quietly blend into the surrounding landscape. When severe weather hits, the shelter will automatically transition into Find Me mode, activating flashing lights and alarms to signal all passing travelers. Finally, the shelter offers Rescue Me mode that will connect visitors automatically to rescue teams through direct video while a heating system is activated in the floor.

With a series of hammocks and comfortable interiors, the Smart Mountain Shelters provide a space for travelers to relax while hiking, climbing or travelling through dangerous terrain.
