A peculiar approach to biomimicry in design can be observed in the Siamese collection by Mateusz Chmura. Looking at the different ways in which two fetuses might develop in conjunction, the designer was inspired to turn the human forms of siamese twins into functional pieces of furniture.
Here we have dressers, side tables, armchairs, a couch, a desk, a lamp and a coat rack. Each has a duality to its configuration, whether embodying a pair of distinctive entities, a more fluid fusion or a form that's somewhere in the middle. The two partner pieces are certainly not mirror images of each other either. The Siamese collection objects are whimsically distorted and, in many cases, apparently unstable.
