This poignant sex trafficking photo series shines a light on the horrid issue of human trafficking that has once again raised its ugly head when Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls this year and threatened to sell them as sex slaves.
The sickening industry of human sex trafficking is a worldwide phenomena that forces millions into the sex trade and there are no signs of it slowing down; which is why this 'Pipeline' project by Paris-based photographer Elena Perlino is very important because it draws attention to this horrible reality. The sex trafficking photo series focuses mainly on Italy and Nigeria -- 80% of sex slaves come from a city called Benin City in the African country.
"Commuting every day in the North of Italy for job reasons, I had noticed the surreal presence of young African women sitting half naked in the snow. I had to deal with it. If you are a photographer you use your camera to filter the world and understand it," says Perlino.
