This Battery Uses Light to Charge Itself Up

A group of Indian scientists have developed a self-charging battery that is capable of juicing itself using artificial or solar light. While batteries are normally used to store power generated by solar cells, this battery uses a special titanium nitride-based photoanode instead of a regular anode, allowing it to charge itself.

This self-charging battery is able to attain a full charge within just 30 seconds in regular indoor lighting. It can then discharge enough of an electrical current to illuminate an LED light or operate a small fan, and lasts for over 100 charge/discharge cycles.

The battery's titanium nitride is also more stable than typical anodes, making it less likely to overheat and catch fire. This battery still requires a lot of development but holds a lot of promise.
