These Swimsuits Help Scientists Collect Sea Turtle Poop

A group of researchers at the University of Queensland have designed special sea turtle swimsuits that act as a giant harness to collect fecal samples. Part of a study to locate and better understand the foraging areas of endangered loggerhead turtles, this bespoke swimsuit can be fitted onto the heavy turtles and act as a 'giant nappy', collecting poop for the scientists to study.

The sea turtle swimsuits were designed by PhD student Owen Coffee and researcher Carmen da Silva after they realized they were having a hard time collecting fecal samples of six loggerhead sea turtles.

This invention could go a long way towards helping endangered turtles, as turtle poop gives scientists a lot of insights into the health, diet and feeding grounds of the beautiful animals.
