The Schier Shoes Desert Boot Collection Reworks Traditional African Shoes

The Schier Shoes desert boot collection brings a classic Namibian tradition in footwear to North America.

In a collaboration with Opening Ceremony, the footwear manufacturer has designed a small collection of the Veldskoen boots, affectionately known as vellies in Namibia, in bright colors and fierce fabrics.

Sewn together using two pieces of kudu hide, the kicks come in four different two-toned variations; incorporating leopard-printed leather, antelope fur and neon colors into the design that has become the shoe choice of Namibian natives for years.

Each pair is hand-stitched by a small team in Swakopmund who churn out only 20 pairs per day, taking their time to incorporate as much of the hide as possible into each pair and ensuring that each boot is well-made and unique.
