Schemata Architects Designed These Inspiring Furniture Pieces

These vibrant candy colored furniture pieces were designed by Schemata Architects’ Jo Nagasaka, who is based in Tokyo, Japan. The surface of the pieces have a sheen of color but underneath that vibrant layer there are various techniques and aesthetics used. The tables look as if the color glows separately like a light, rather than being a part of the wood. This creative technique is what makes these contemporary pieces so unique and inspiring.

Nagasaka used the traditional Japanese "udukuri" method to strip the softest parts of the wood way, exposing the durable woodgrain. By adding resin-coating to the surface, he emphasizes the natural design and pattern of the wood. The items look like life-size Jolly Rancher candies! This collection by Schemata Architects is currently available for viewing at the London Design Museum’s "Designs of the Year 2014."
