Samuel Bernard’s Series Distorts Comic Book Heroes

Samuel Bernard has made Superman, The Flash, Batman and The Thing barely recognizable in his ‘Abstract Superhero’ series. The subjects of this series might not be obvious at a first glance, but there are elements that Bernard includes to make them identifiable.

The pieces reduce the famed comic book heroes to fragmented shapes that make the characters seem as if their poses have been captured amidst the chaos of an earthquake that is shaking the ground beneath them. Although hints of the superheroes' emblems can be seen, the coloring and stature of the figures are better identifiers of these characters.

Samuel Bernard has previously explored abstraction and pixelation in his art, and although fragmented, these works make a strong collection as a whole.
