Body-Positive Anime Fashion

This Designer is Creating a Sailor Moon Fashion Line for Plus Sizes

Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe has teamed up with the creators of Sailor Moon to launch an inclusive Sailor Moon fashion line that features plus sizes. With her clothing line, Punyus, Watanabe aims to end the common belief that beauty is synonymous with a slim figure.

Naomi Watanabe was thrust into the spotlight after gaining notoriety in 2008 for her Beyonce impersonation. Her lively dance moves proved that women of any size can be beautiful and fit, and created a platform for the comedian/designer to become a body-positive spokesperson.

The Punyus Sailor Moon collaboration has been extremely popular after its release in Japan in late April. The line features a 14-piece range and includes rompers, T-shirts, and uniforms. The pieces come in 5 different colors representing Sailors Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus respectively, with each character stitched on the left breast.
