It is difficult to tell exactly how much space a turning truck will assume at an intersection, so the Safety Line has been dreamed up as a way to help people and cars around them out of harm's way. Kuan-Chih Wang, Min-Yi Lin and Jih-Yan Li collaborated on this concept that employes a system of lights and sensors for indicating and recognition purposes.
One compact unit would be installed at the rear of the tractor-trailer's load while the other would be clipped onto the vehicle's cabin. The infrared rays of the two would meet in the middle, forming a visible boundary for other motorists and pedestrians. Furthermore, the Safety Line would inform the driver of the rig or the eighteen-wheeler if someone or something is occupying that dangerous space so that cautious and informed driving decisions are made.
