The company in Oklahoma was inspired to design something protective in response to the the tornado that tore through Moore, Oklahoma way back in 1999, where 24 people died in a school without a tornado shelter.
The pad is made in a material called Dyneema, a thick polyethylene that's even stronger than Kevlar. To make rescue operations easier, the blanket is a bright orange color for easy identification.
