Bulletproof Blankets

The Bodyguard Blanket for Kids Gives New Meaning to 'Safety Blanket'

By nature, blankets are protective, but the Bodyguard Blanket by ProTecht is a safety blanket unlike any before. The company in Oklahoma was inspired to design something protective in response to the the tornado that tore through Moore, Oklahoma way back in 1999, where 24 people died in a school without a tornado shelter.

The pad is made in a material called Dyneema, a thick polyethylene that's even stronger than Kevlar. To make rescue operations easier, the blanket is a bright orange color for easy identification. As well as being able to protect against falling overhead objects, the blankets shield against 9mm bullets. Each Bodyguard Blanket is a costly $1,000 per child, but they could be huge life savers for schools.
