As a recent graduate from the Central Saint Martins college, Sabinna has just released her first entire collection. Titled 'I am Everyone. I Am No One,' the collection was inspired by her mother's childhood experience in the USSR. She focuses particularly on how teenage girls navigate their self-expression in a complex political system like communism.
Sabinna explains, "School uniforms, sports and the Olympic games play an important role in the research. My collection also looks closer into sport activities[,] which were an important part of my mother’s childhood and of the communist system."
The fabric choices were inspired by everyday items such as tablecloths and curtains, which were often repurposed into clothing. This includes fabrics such as neoprene, crochet lace, embroidered flowers and recycled PVC from plastic bags. Sabinna developed a method for melting different fabrics together to create interesting new textures. The entire collection was produced ethically.
