Breast Biopsy Robots

Future Robots May Do Surgery on Their Own

Duke University researchers are working on a robot that can perform a breast biopsy. The human-assisted experimental robot successfully demonstrated its abilities and opens the doors to a wide range of robotic uses in the medical field.

If robots can operate independently, or with remote location input, they may be able to expand medical services to a larger population by performing some of the diagnostic routines that are now performed by human practitioners.

Some dismiss the ability of robots to fill in as nurses and medical caregivers. It might be well to remember that IBM didn’t think the computer had much of a future either.
