Dainty Age Depiction Portraits

The Winnie Truong Rites of Passage Images Focus on Life Stages

The Winnie Truong Rites of Passage illustrations are currently on display at Copenhagen's Gallery Benoni. By way of pastel blue, pink and green coloring, Truong has drawn attention to the subject of aging in each picture.

Etched rather delicately upon images of flowing curls and hair ties are hollow skulls, signifying Truong's preoccupation with the elderly and the process of development from youth onwards. While the subject of aging often elicits negative or upsetting emotions, each of the women showcased in the Truong series are neither elated nor perturbed, but are instead markedly indifferent to the many life cycles referenced in Rites of Passage.

Daintiness is central to each portrait. The skull and bones imagery does not detract from feminine braids, long eyelashes and full lips.
