Shirokuma's Rice Packaging Features Cheery Polar Bears

Rice packaging and the word "adorable" usually aren't ever found in the same sentence, but Shirokuma's rice bags are pretty cute. The polar bear-inspired designs were created for the rice wholesaler by Japanese designer Ishikawa Ryuta, playing up the brand name "Shirokuma," since it translates to mean "polar bear" in Japanese.

The black and white illustrations are printed on simple brown paper bags, enhancing the natural material with a playful personality. On the bag that features just the bear's face, it even looks like the handles of the bag form the top of the bear's ears and head. Rather than just being strictly utilitarian, this is a fantastic way to show that even a few minimal shapes can turn a rice packaging design into something way more whimsical and fun.
