London and Somaliland-based design firm Rashid Ali Architects unveil a new garden pavilion defined by chequered timber themes. It can also be illuminated to appear to be a 'glowing lantern.' The room is found within a paved garden of a house located in Hargeisa. The simplistic pavilion is meant to contrast its surrounding buildings in the dense residential space.
Supported by a timber frame, the room is filled with a ser of plywood and tinted glass paneling to create a chequered look. Rashad Ali speaks about the design concept to Dezeen, stating that "The idea of the chequered facade was to express the structural pattern of the timber as the aesthetic language of the pavilion. The infill use of plywood, tinted glass, and polycarbonate defuses the intense daylight, and at night turns it into a glowing lantern within the garden."
