Sleek Racing Wheelchairs

This BMW Wheelchair Will Be Used By American Paralympic Athletes

BMW North America announced that it is planning to develop a high-tech, futuristic and high-performance racing wheelchair in time for the 2016 Paralympic Games. Unsurprisingly, the USA track and field team will be the beneficiaries of this groundbreaking technology.

This chair represents the fourth collaboration between BMW North America and Team USA, following its bobsled designs and performance-tracking systems for track & field and swimming. As was the case in those previous collaborations, the racing wheelchair project will involve adapting existing BMW vehicle technologies for athletic applications.

BMW's global creative consultancy Designworks will help create the new design, while working directly with American track and field athletes and coaches in identifying areas of greatest need and how to address them.

With the latest BMW technology in aerodynamics, steering and braking, this racing wheelchair is sure to give American paralympic athletes a big boost in 2016.
