Qualcomm Plans to Use Mirasol Display Screens On its Phones

Qualcomm plans to make smartphones with Mirasol display screens, which are perfect for outdoor usage. Unlike an LCD screen that uses a backlight source, the Mirasol feeds off an external light to illuminate its images. This technology is six times more power efficient than LCD and OLED screens, according to Qualcomm.

Because reflective display technology reacts to external light, a smartphone with Mirasol display will always be "on". Qualcomm's phone will produce sharper pictures than those of multiple competing phones.

The new Qualcomm phone is 2560 x 1440 in resolution, 5.1 inches diagonally at 576 pixels per inch. Qualcomm's smartphone display prototype is planning to be mass produced in a few years, but for now, it remains just a cool concept.
