The Unemployment Olympics Will Take Over Tompkins Square Park

Tompkins Square Park will host the first annual Unemployment Olympics on Tuesday March 31, 2009.  What better place to hold such an event since the labour riots of the 19th century were held in this same park. 26-year-old Nick Goddard is the genius behind this NYC event. He has recently been laid off from his computer programming job and has obviously been spending his free time organizing this event.

With prizes donated by local bars and restaurants (including $50 dollar bar tabs), the unemployed of NYC are invited to come out to participate in events such as Pin the Blame on the Bosses, the Fax machine Toss and the You’re Fired Race. All the "athletes" need to do is present documentation stating that they are unemployed and they qualify to compete.

Unfortunately, there are no job positions as prizes, but Goddard hopes to alleviate some stress and get the unemployed out for a day of fun.
