Cracked Concept Cars

Project Flake Intentionally Cracks Itself to Provide a Smoother Ride

Cracked paint on a car under normal circumstances is call for alarm, but that isn't the case with the Project Flake concept car. Designed by Da Feng of GYM car fame, Project Flake is a futuristic four-wheeler purposefully designed to periodically crack its exterior.

The cracking is done to regulate airflow around the car to provide a smooth ride in uneven surfaces. The cracks appear only on rough terrain and even out as the road gets smoother. The shell of this car isn't the only innovative part of Project Flake. Feng has also modified this car's tires to look more like tank treads. The modified tires are fitted with sensors that communicate the surface of the road to the tires which then shift their form to match the road that they're on.

If all of this sounds too good to be true it's because it is. Project Flake will probably be a concept for a long, long time, but that doesn't mean that you can't get your hopes up. Check out Project Flake in action in the video here.
