These 3D-Printed Sunglasses Experiment with an Avant-Garde Form

At the most recent fashion show from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts' Fashion School, student designer Dávid Ring sent a series of avant-garde looks down the catwalk that were heightened with shapely 3D-printed sunglasses.

A series of five 3D-printed sunglasses were created just for the show in collaboration with student Nils Faber and 3D printing service Materialise. The printing of these sculptural sunglasses were created with two different types of printing techniques— Stereolithography for making the transparent lenses and Laser Sintering for making a matching color-coded frame that included no breaks, folding pieces or hinges.

3D printing has created the ability for makers to create bespoke outfit-matching accessories, which means that in the future, fewer consumers may be investing in singular pieces that will suit all of their garments.
