Burn-Out Velvet Fashion

Prada's Modern Twist on a Vintage Fabric for Fall 2009

Prada’s burnt-out-looking models were perfect for the burn-out velvet pieces in Miuccia’s Fall 2009 collection. Their frizzled hair and colourless skin contrasted intensely against the deep autumn shades of burgundy, dark chocolate brown and black.

Burn-out silk velvet fashions were made popular in the 60’s and 70’s by performers such as Stevie Nicks who often draped herself in shawls and tunics made from the exotic fabric.

Prada’s tak,e although executed in a heavier material, still carries with it that vintage vibe, updated with modern ‘burnt’ patterns.
