This pop-up Birkenstock store, called the 'Birkenstock Box,' is a retail experiment created in collaboration with the concept store, Andreas Murkudis.
The Birkenstock Box is housed inside of a walk-in shipping container designed by architects 'Gonzales Haas AAS.' This experimental retail space will travel worldwide beginning in Berlin -- Birkenstock's country of origin. As the pop-up Birkenstock store travels the world, its contents will be curated based on the host store's tastes. As the host of the first location, Andreas Murkudis helped to design two styles of limited-edition 'Arizona Exquisite' sandals in green and black.
With this new direction, Birkenstock is hoping to reach mass consumers and those with more discerning, fashion-focused tastes. Between the casual, yet classic styles Birkenstock is known for and its collaborations with taste-makers like Murkudis, the German sandal brand is well on its way to bridging the gap between both audiences.
