These Plastic Collection Pods Capture Trash in the Ocean

The vast amount of plastic waste floating in our oceans is continuing to increase each year and requires a solution to prevent it from overwhelming ocean ecosystems, so these conceptual plastic collection pods are intended to offer just that.

The pods themselves are made from ocean plastic and would work to capture waste in the water at the epicenter, which include hotspots like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and beyond. The structures would also provide researchers with their own space to analyze oceanic conditions including temperature, salinity, pressure and more to help with marine life conservation.

The conceptual plastic collection pods are the design work of Lucy Zakharova and Ted Lu, and would work at multiple levels in the water to ensure all waste is effectively captured.
