These amazingly intricate pink bubblegum sculptures are the latest work from artist Maurizio Savini. He works with two assistants who aid in unwrapping and melting the gum into sticky pink goo to prepare for the sculpting process. Each statue is made with a plaster mold base so that the gum holds the desired shape.
Savini's pink bubblegum sculptures range from animals and people to flags and chandeliers. Each figure can weigh up to 14 kilograms depending on its size. The glossy finish gives each sculpture a polished look with a very vibrant color.
When searching for a new material to work with, Savini wanted to make a connection with art and world history. He says this iconic American symbol became as famous as Coca-Cola and nylon stockings during World War II.
