Idyllic Beach Photography

These Photos Capture Scenes at the Piemanson Beach in France

Piemanson is a photo series, captured by photographer Vasantha Yogananthan, that documents scenes in the French beach of the same name, which also happens to be the last free beach in France. Every year, the beach opens its vast 10 km expanse to campers who construct temporary shelters out of tents, recreational vehicles, wood and plastic sheets. At peak season, the beach hosts around 5,000 people.

From 2009 to 2013, Yogananthan became a regular at the beach, living, eating and sleeping with its visitors for weeks at a time. With the beach likely to be shut down by the French government in the coming years, he set out to capture photographs to preserve the previous memories of the three generations of Europeans who have traveled to Piemanson.
