David Meanix Creates Photographic Sculptures

David Meanix goes through a painstakingly long process to create his stunning photo sculptures. These dark pieces bring a whole new meaning and dimension to photographs. David Meanix created his first sculpture while attending San Francisco State University.

The process itself is quite complicated in creating these photosculptures. First, he takes 2D photographs of his subject, then he shoots each plane of the face inch by inch and and develops them to actual size. Then David Meanix places the printed planes on top of the original photographs, making them into paper maché or photo sculpture masks. Finally, he gets the original subject of the 2D photograph to pose with the mask on.

The result is well worth the tremendous effort. David Meanix and his photo sculptures can be seen on his website.
