This Photo Essay is Vibrantly Colored, Yet Eerily Haunting

This photo essay by Barcelona-based photographer Leila Méndez and art director Gabriel Escámez gives off an obscurely haunting aura. Though most of these photos are filled with bright CMYK colors, they also incorporate dark silhouettes, shadows, lighting effects and even smoke.

A couple of the photos display crystal geometric prisms, blended with eerie lighting. These specific images resemble something like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album cover. The juxtaposition of animals, hands and objects in these photos also hint that the photo series has a progressive motive in mind.

In this subtly evocative way, the artists attempt to tell a meaningful message that is up for interpretation. This is fitting, because the collection of photos was featured in a Spanish magazine called The Poool, which inspires creativity around the world.
