Josie Lewis' 'Petrified Rainbow' Series Evokes Alien-Like Imagery

Josie Lewis' 'Petrified Rainbow' series is a gorgeous exploration of artwork that combines elements of science. The series features amazing shots of petri dishes that hold a mix of chemicals and resin that blend and flow together to form a stunning result. Lewis has claimed that that each piece is a gamble, as she basically throws ink and resin into a dish, seals it, flips it over and observes the result.

Petrified Rainbow has been compared to the Shimmer from the film Annihilation, and Lewis has no problems with this connection and even joked that perhaps the Shimmer was inspired by her artwork. The pieces in the Petrified Rainbow series give off an appearance of something both incredibly natural while also showing off a style of futurism. The colors blend and flow over one another and are held in perfect stasis, mirroring alien worlds or mythological scales. Pieces from Petrified Rainbow have yet to go on sale, but can be seen on Josie Lewis' Instagram page.
