California is quite a distance from Siberia, but that's exactly the distance (over 1,000 miles, to be exact) that photographer Sasha Leahovcenco traveled to capture the stunning images in his 'People from the End of the Earth' project. The documentary series features locals from remote villages in Chuktoka; so remote, in fact, that several of the villages had never encountered a visitor there before.
Leahovcenco would print the photographs immediately after they were taken and hand them to the individual in question. This was especially significant for many who had never had their photograph taken before. Leahovcenco explains the intention of the project, saying, "we hope to engage humanity’s deep rooted fascination with nature and desire to understand humanity. Perhaps by getting a glimpse of this nomadic way of life we will reflect on this modern world and what in our lives is truly important."
