Seductively Silenced Photography

These Pedro Matos Photographs are Emotionally Enthralling

Though there is not much information about his work, brilliantly young photographer Pedro Matos’ work speaks volumes of itself. The Portugese photographer, who is also an avid painter and collage artist, has an incredibly eye-opening, captivating lens which sends powerful imagery and messages to his viewers.

This particular series of emotion-evoking photographs may hold different meanings for different viewers. For me personally, what is so striking is the way the women are represented—beautiful, seductive, and powerful, yet oppressed and silenced by lighting, physical restrictions or clothing. A common theme in many of Matos’ photographs is the all-too-often blurred line between women as objects and women as human entities.

These incredible photographs were taken for The Draft Mag, a fashion and photography online magazine. With concept and styling done by João Ribeiro, gorgeous makeup done by Rita Lacerda and models Alexandra Nefedova and Nikola. I am so taken aback by the power, emotion and beauty that they capture, and can’t wait to see more from the 20-year-old photographer.
