Detroiturbex.com is trying to spread awareness about the crumbling metropolis through this past vs. present fusion series. The photography transposes images of the past that show thriving environments on top of the now deserted and decaying images of the present.
The time period for each image ranges from a few months to a few years, but the situation is always the same; the difference between then and now is incredibly disturbing. From dilapidated basketball arenas to deserted churches and schools, the most chilling fact is that these places are all important social constructs that positively affect the community. The recession has hit North America hard, but Detroit has had one of the worst experiences because of it's once booming automotive industry. It's important to spread awareness about this issue because the people of Detroit are loosing out on diverse and beneficial establishments.
