Mobile Parking Meter Payments

This City Now Accepts Smartphone Parking Payments

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced that all of the city's metered parking spaces will accept mobile parking payments. While the parking meter has been around for quite some time, the device has changed relatively little since its inception. Now these antiquated machines will join the 21st century with the addition of smartphone-connectivity.

By the end of this year, all of New York City's 85,000 parking meters will accept mobile parking payments. Consumers simply download an app and enter basic information such as their credit card number, license plate number and the meter number. Consumers will be able to pay for the meter at any time, giving them a greater deal of flexibility when it comes to parking. The new meters will also be equipped with tablets that make it easier for New York Police Department to monitor the spaces.
