'Shi-An' is an award winning paper tea house that's as intricate as it is adorable. Thoughtfully constructed by Kazuya Katagiri, this structure utilizes an ancient origami process to maintain durability despite its delicate materials. The entirely paper house is made from 4,000 pieces of Japanese 'Washi' paper -- each piece had to be folded 8 times, demanding time and precision from the constructor.
The pieces can be folded into one another, resulting in a structure that stands alone without the need for glue or other adhesives. The tea house was created to embody "the idea of Japanese simplified beauties, also at the same time, the cellular body of the structure reminds living creatures of warmth and softness as if it is in the womb."
