Elaborate Reading Contraptions

Page Turner by Joseph Herscher is a Clever & Complex Device

You might think that turning the pages of a newspaper is relatively simple, but 'Page Turner' by Joseph Herscher points to the contrary. The Brooklyn-based computer programmer and kinetic artist has created a very elaborate and complex contraption to aid him in turning the pages of his paper.

Page Turner by Joseph Herscher is a Rube Goldberg-style contraption that comprises an 18-step process. When Herscher takes a sip of his coffee, this pulls a string that tips the paintings behind him. Balls then roll down the paintings to light a burner that will in turn cause a container of water to boil. This boiling water will cause books to tip, which knocks a vase and computer off of the table. Finally, a tape is released that will open a page of Herscher's paper.
