'Our Common House' Encourages Birds to Live Nearby

The 'Our Common House' design concept is imagined as a new take on address numbers that will provide homeowners with a way to encourage birds to live in the neighborhood for enhanced biodiversity.

The concept sees the numbers equipped with small holes that can be used by small birds like sparrows or hummingbirds as a birdhouse. This would help homeowners to support urban avian communities in a simple yet effective manner that would virtually disappear into the environment without looking too out of place.

The 'Our Common House' design concept is the design work of Mikołaj Nicer who explained that, "The lack of nesting opportunities is one of the most important factors limiting the success of urban bird populations. Modern building technologies and concepts of city space organization leave little room for…nesting…Our Common House offers a simple and scalable solution to this problem. It turns the common element of building aesthetics into a functional nesting unit, thus providing the population of urban birds with an invaluable resource."
