Inflating Origami Shapes

MIT Media Lab's 'aeroMorph' Origami Designs Form Themselves

One of the projects that recently came out of the MIT Media Lab introduces 'aeroMorph,' or self-inflating origami designs that seemingly come to life on their own accord.

By creating a network of air channels on materials such as plastic or paper, a team from the MIT Media Lab was able to form complex folding forms with the aid of a computer. Once the inflating origami shapes were able to perform the desired response in the computer simulator, the real structures were created and brought to life.

As artful as the aeroMorph origami designs may be, the self-inflating forms have the potential to inspire future projects across many industries, especially in the realm of packaging.
