A range of extravagant organic furniture designs was debuted during the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. The beautiful work, which drew inspiration from natural rock formations, was created by Swedish designer Kajsa Melchior as part of her 'Fictive Erosion' project. The collection aimed to look at a "future where machine-driven manufacturing is outlawed for the sake of the environment."
Given the context that the organic furniture designs aim to relate to the audience, Kajsa Melchior used a specialized technique to create each silhouette. This was sand-casting. The creative uses air and water guns, as well as her hands to manipulate the sand. Then, plaster is poured in and then the object is dug up once dry. Given the technique, Kajsa Melchior never knows what the exact form will be.
