This opera performance on wheels, 'Hopscotch,' will take to the streets of Los Angeles for three weeks straight, organized by the opera company, 'The Industry.' The experimental show uses a fleet of stretched limousines that will house the performers who pop out of windows, doors and sun roofs, playing instruments and singing the libretto.
The experiment is the brainchild of director Yuval Sharon, who had a desire to change the way people viewed daily life by injecting their day with music. This mobile show includes 240 musicians, technicians and drivers. Audience members can buy tickets to the opera performance ahead of time and are simply given a start time and an address.
Upon show time, the audience members will get inside the cars, where a different chapter of the three part libretto is sung. The routes are chosen to coincide with the emotions of the chapter -- for instance, roads that offer feelings of despair compared to joyous, more beautiful streets.
