Passive-Aggressive Lighting

The Reddish 'On-Off' Lamp Snaps in Half to Turn Off

It's generally not a good idea to snap the base of your lamps in two, but Reddish's 'On-Off' lamp actually encourages such passive-aggressive behavior. The light is hinged and wired such that bending it in half turns the 'On-Off' lamp off, while reassembling it turns the lamp on.

I'm not sure that encouraging homeowners to break lamps contributes to marital or domestic bliss, but it certainly does make for a fun party trick!

Implications - One of the most effective ways for a company to distinguish itself in a crowded marketplace is by investing in commodities that are pragmatic, but designed in a novelty fashion. By providing consumers with the opportunity to laugh with a typically boring household appliance, the brand increases its chances of standing out in a crowd.
